Hotels, Bed and Breakfasts, Apartments, Etc.

Below you will find a list of hotels to get you started. Now (as of 6/29) we have them listed them in order from most recommended to least but we haven’t included any that you just might hate. Except for maybe the Thriftlodge. But hey, it’s cheap.

Perhaps our strongest recommendation would be to look at one of the available guesthouses below or on VRBO (there are more available, just Google it, these are just a start; if you can coordinate with others you can save yourself a bundle of money (many of them are much cheaper than hotels). There are only a few places that we can recommend based on first-hand knowledge… But we at least tried to provide some sort of filter for all the hotels in Portland. We’ve included our own address so you can see how close you might be.

For a great site for hotels follow this link to TripAdvisor.com (great map search function) and for rental houses go to VRBO.com (also mentioned below).

The below map is a representation of all the hotels in the lists below.

The Garden Guest House on Hawthorne

In addition to hostel rooms, they have two bedroom apartments for $140/night.

Of all the ones we’ve listed on the East side, this one has the best location right on Hawthorne Blvd, also it’s the closest to our house.

Portland Central Thriftlodge

Directly across the river from downtown and in a somewhat revitalized area. But it’s a THRIFTlodge, so you probably get what you pay for. Right across the street from the Doug Fir Lounge, a pretty great venue and bar/restauraunt (they have a cheap hotel too, but unless you’re keen on being kept up by patio partiers all night, maybe take a pass).

Rooms average $79.

Courtyard by Marriot Lloyd Center (NOT Downtown as they say)

A somewhat cheaper option on the east side of the river. The area is more oriented to convention-attendees and mall-goers. But what you miss out in location you make up for in price.

Rooms average $139

If you are simply in love with Marriot, try either:

How to Prepare

Weather
Usually, September weather in Portland is like a slightly cooler August… dry and warm. But so far it’s be intermittently rainy overcast (and it until mid-June this year), so anything goes…It could rain the entire time (but let’s hope it doesn’t) so prepare accordingly. This is the Pacific Northwest after all.

Definitely come prepared for days to be 60’s/70’s and nights to be 50’s. And bring something for RAIN.
